UK Head of Health & Food Safety Manager

We are looking for an experienced UK Head of Health & Food Safety Manager to lead a small team of H&S Specialists, who are responsible for health & safety and food safety across our estate. This is a senior role in SSP, where you will develop and manage policy for Food Hygiene & Occupational Health and Safety in Operations.
As UK Head of Health & Food Safety Manager, you will devise strategies with other teams to ensure these policies are effectively implemented and monitored across the businesses, taking action to remediate breaches of legislation, accidents, complaints and crises relating H&FS and civil claims. You will also be managing the preparation of legal casework and representing SSP where necessary. This is a hands on role, with travel required to visit stores and investigate any major incidents.
In this role, you will report to the SSP UK boards and Risk Management Committee on delivery of policy, exceptions and emerging trends and keep them updated of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the business.
This will be achieved by engaging and communicating with various business stakeholders, clients and Primary Authority Partners, planning and prioritising actions and ensuring delivery of projects.
Key tasks for this role will include:
Act as SSP’s ‘competent person’ in relation to the management, implementation and monitoring of hygiene & safety
Devise policy for the SSP UK boards to adopt which is legally compliant and adopts the key objectives and procedures of the business, our clients and franchise partners.
Advise the business of emerging trends, new legal requirements and other threats or opportunities.
Engage with other teams to produce effective tools to implement the policy objectives including methods of record keeping & monitoring for critical areas of the business to ensure we maintain a level of due diligence for food safety and reasonable practicability for occupational safety.
Advise the boards on identifying clear responsibilities and accountabilities for hygiene and safety from shop floor to boardroom.
Lead, coach and develop Health and Food Safety Team, setting measurable objectives and co-ordinating activities and delivery.
In this role, you will also support our Operations Teams meet their Health & Food Safety requirements across the UK.
Act as an ‘hands on expert’ for the business in food hygiene and occupational health and safety.
Monitor reactive inputs from operations in relation to complaints, insurance claims, audits and enforcement officer visits & devise action plans where needed.
Provide clear processes for communication between SSP and the whole of its workforce in both directions in relation to any matter relating to hygiene or safety.
Monitor accidents and incidents and help operations prepare appropriate action plans. to prevent recurrences.
Monitor and investigate insurance claims and devise processes with SSPs brokers and insurers to reduce costs to the business.
Devise strategies to reduce the cost of accidents and claims to the business and incentivise Operations to be more effective at administering investigations and claims.
