Responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to take responsibility for complex documentation issues and task assignments and to participate in team lead and project team lead decisions. The incumbent will possess superior editing and documentation style skills, will work under the general direction of the Development Manager and may oversee other writers.

Fully understands the product delivery life cycle and monitors documentation progress within it
Plans, writes, peer-edits, and performs other development tasks for complex documentation deliverables and projects
Develops and documents application process workflows for assigned features
Has an intricate understanding of the features of the product. Understands the overall features of the product and has advanced comprehension of the application(s) to which they are assigned including the relationship to other applications
Monitors defect tracking for documentation defects; responds promptly to correct or reassign errors and report the outcome
Participates in and/or facilitates DCoE team committees and task forces
Mentors and trains less experienced writers in technical communication skills
Follows best practices for documentation usability and quality assurance and finds ways to incorporate those practices throughout the department
Prepares special reports and knowledge shares
Can lead a team of writers, oversee their work, and report their status to the Development Manager
Keeps the release coordinator informed of progress or is a release coordinator and completes all estimating and scoping worksheets as needed
Advanced writing skills: Ability to develop a full range of user-assistance materials
Ability to create department standards for documentation based on user-centered design principles
Ability to resolve product issue conflicts effectively
Ability to lead a small documentation team if required
Essential Experience:

6-10 years of full-time technical writing in a software development environment
Advanced computer literacy and advanced knowledge and use of major documentation design tools used in the department
Advanced computer literacy and advanced knowledge and use of major documentation design tools used in the department
Experience with: XML, DITA (required), oXygen, HTML, PDF, SharePoint, FrameMaker and Microsoft Office Suite. Ixiasoft experience a plus.
Excellent editing skills with the ability to peer edit.
Must be able to work on multiple projects, estimate project timelines and meet deadlines.
Proven ability to grasp technical subjects and communicate effectively with others.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Knowledge of the healthcare industry is a plus.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:

BA/BS or MA/MS degree preferably in one of the following disciplines: Technical Communication
