Job Description:

The scope of this position involves the day to day support of Windows, Mac and UNIX users in an engineering/R&D computing environment, located in the UK, as well as working as a part of the IT group supporting the European region.

Responsibilities include configuring, installing, documenting, and maintaining computing equipment, responding to internal multi-country computer problems, customer trouble calls computer outages as well as procurement tasks.

Activities include troubleshooting, diagnosis, and management of internal and external resources to correct problems.

Duties include primary Windows support, Linux OS and server support with occasional troubleshooting on network and other local IT infrastructure services.

The scope includes;

Analysis of, and debugging system problems of any kind, to problem resolution, and effective communication of IT issues and resolution.
Interaction with vendors and other IT members and management of procurement issues for hardware and software products is required.
Work with a team of system administrators who support the European sites along with the extended Synopsys corporate support staff.
Take corrective action to fix potential problems or communicating potential issues to appropriate personnel.
It is also important to set and communicate priorities, solve problems quickly with good follow-through to verify completion.

Regular travel between the various UK offices will be required.

Job Requirements:

Requires strong inter-personal and communication skills along with the ability to multi-task and solve problems. Able to schedule, prioritize, accomplish R&D related activities and communicate actions and results as needed. Previous experience in customer support, computer operations, systems administration or another related area is required. Proficiency with all aspects of Windows and Linux system administration, programming and scripting, experience with network operations is preferred.

Education and Experience:

BS or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience on Windows and Unix. Possesses a solid understanding of specialization area plus working knowledge of one other related area. Resolves issues in creative ways. Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Execute projects from start to completion. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Receives little instructions on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments and projects. Determines and develops recommendations to solutions. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Works on team-driven or task-oriented projects. May guide more junior peers with aspects of their job. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
