About the role:
Do you have both editorial and technical skills and great attention to detail?
We are currently seeking a Digital Communications Officer to ensure the corporate website is kept up to date, accurate and easy to use. You will also provide training and technical support for the MRC intranet, updating core content when required.
You will work closely with the Digital Communications Manager to ensure the timely delivery of web-based projects and initiatives and where necessary.
Main Duties/Key Responsibilities:
You will reactively update content on MRC corporate website as requests arise, advising on optimal layout, proofreading content prior to publication and posting updates to social media where relevant.
Proactively manage the corporate website schedule of content changes and updates, liaising with colleagues across the organisation to ensure content are up to date and accurate.
Assist the Digital Communications Manager in the development of new sections and features on the MRC corporate website, including requirements capture, design, and image editing and testing.
Support the Digital Communications Manager in the implementation of the MRC’s digital strategy and play an active part in ensuring the success of the strategy.
Train nominated staff on publishing content to the intranet, ensure they keep their content up to date, and perform checks on content for layout and readability.
Provide technical support for the intranet ensuring documentation is kept up to date and logging/tracking issues with the support provider.
Provide holiday and out of office cover for the intranet, including updating core and home page content
You will have an honours degree or equivalent and have relevant experience in a web publishing or web content management role. It is desirable for you to have experience working in a public sector corporate web team or on a large, content-rich website. It is also not essential for you to have experience of managing busy web content schedules, but would be beneficial.
You will have experience of using at least one content management system and be familiar with publishing a range of material for use on digital communications channels, including images, video and podcasts.
You will have proofreading skills, knowledge of HTML and experience of using image editing software. You will have the ability to prioritise and plan work effectively and be client-focused with a commitment to continuous improvement in service delivery. You will have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical matters to non-technical colleagues.
It is desirable to have knowledge of social media sites and tools such as Twitter and Facebook. It is also desirable to have knowledge of project management methodologies, experience of proofreading content and knowledge of web accessibility guidelines.
