SHEQ Advice Based: Doncaster

My client is a civil contractor, based in Doncaster, due to successful tenders they are looking to grow their business, recruiting a SHEQ Adviser, ideally from civil engineering background. However, candidate will be considered if they understand S278 and groundwork packages. 50 % site base and 50 % office based.


The purpose of this role is to provide functional SHEQ advice, guidance and coaching to construction / plant teams. The position supports the SHEQ Manager in establishing and maintaining the highest SHEQ standards for the business.

Key Areas of Responsibility

 Advise, guide and coach all personnel with the implementation of the Company Procedures

 Advise on all current occupational H&S and environmental legislation

 Conduct site inspections, audits and ISA’s to ensure compliance with Company Procedures and Policy’s

 Attend Regional Construction Meetings

 Assist Site Teams to improve SHEQ performance on site

 Carry out investigation into accidents / incidents as required by SHEQ Manager

 Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and codes of practice

 To report to SHEQ Manager on compliance / non-compliance with regards to safety, health, environmental and quality system and suggest /promote ways of improving performance

 Undertake formal SHEQ training as necessary to attain acceptance by the relevant professional bodies

 Conduct company inductions for new starters

 Production of safety alerts, bulletins etc. as required

 Carryout SHEQ training on the sites / workshops as required

 Support the business to win work. When directed complete Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQ) and tender enquiries.

 Carryout community liaison as directed by the SHEQ Manager

 Conduct and chair project safety committee meetings, produce minutes, ensure actions are assigned and distribute accordingly.

 Attend group and regional safety committee meetings as directed by the SHEQ Manager

Qualifications and Skills

 NEBOSH Construction Certificate

 TECH IOSH Technician Member

 NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health & Safety Practice (minimum)

 IRCA OH & SMS 18001 Auditor (minimum)

 Affiliate Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA)

 Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) (minimum)
