Data Scientist / Statistical Insights Analyst – Start-Up function
Reporting into the Director of Innovation, this role is part of a newly established nimble and highly technical team of data scientists and engineers, created to develop the already invaluable data assets of this leading loyalty consultancy.
You will have the best of both worlds, working in a start-up style function with multi-million pound backing from an already established name in the data and loyalty pace, delivering cutting edge predictive analysis to some of the Uk’s leading brands and retail names.
As experts in targeted marketing, and personalisation my client realise that working with transactional data is no longer enough, so they plan to utilise and purchase other data around customers’ digital footprint (social media etc.), environmental context (what was the weather like that day? Where were you?) and personality (hobbies, holiday choices etc.) in order to provide their clients with a truly 360 degree view of their customers.
In order to succeed in this team you need to be able to work autonomously, sometimes with little direction from the business, with a solutions focus and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders from across the company.
Your background will be statistics and predictive modelling, or potentially you are already working in a Big Data environment and area familiar with the relevant technologies such as Scala, Spark, Hadoop, Python etc. using Bayesian techniques. If you are a Statistical Customer Insights Analyst looking to move into a true Data Scientist role, this would be a great opportunity to do so, as training will be provided on skills gaps (modelling skills are essential though).
Fundamentally you need to have skills using SAS OR R AND SQL for statistical analysis and customer insight work.
Challenges within this role include ensuring your data is accurate across the millions of records at your fingertips, and ensuring the offering stays unique. So you should approach your work with a questioning and curious mind, always working to unearth new and valuable insights for your clients.
*Educated to degree level in a relevant and numerate subject such as Machine Learning, Computer Science, Maths & Statistics, Physics etc.
*Strong and efficient coder using SAS OR R and SQL, and ideally Big Data technologies such as Scala, Spark, Python, JavaC++, Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Pig
*Excellent communication skills in order to liaise with clients and internal colleagues
*Confident in abilities to match different data sets from varying sources in order to deliver insightful recommendations and reports to end clients
