Our clients offer residential, short break and respite support services to children and young people, many of whom suffer severe Learning disabilities, autism (ASD) and/or mild mental health issues. The children supported display both verbal and physical challenging behaviour and need Support Workers who will be able to effectively engage with them and manage these behaviours appropriately. The children’s homes are set in great, centrally based locations and offer a very supportive team environment.
As a Residential Support Worker, you must be able to effectively engage with the children you will supporting and/or key working, be able to recognise possible behavioural triggers and effectively manage the associated behaviour displayed (verbal and physical), be able to provide a stimulating environment for the children and young people who use the service and ideally have some knowledge of non verbal communication (eg PECs, Makaton, BSL). There will be some personal care (eg washing, showering, bathing, dressing) and you should be familiar with using hoists or be willing to undertake training. You must have reasonable IT skills as you must be able to update reports with observations and contribute to team meetings. Good communications skills are essential as you will liaise with external stakeholders relating to the care of the children using the service.
You should be passionate about providing high quality care for children and young people and be able to deal with emotional, behavioural and stressful situations. Our clients offer a high level of support and will provide you with ongoing training and development. You will ideally have experience of working within a children’s residential service as a children’s residential support worker and understand the requirements of OFSTED regulations. It is not essential that you have experience of learning disabilities however this will be highly beneficial.
* Hold a valid DBS (Registered with the online service checker) or be prepared to undertake an enhanced DBS check through FRCE
* Have a minimum of NVQ3 Children & Young People, or equivalent
* Able to work shifts, morning, evening, nights, weekends
