Teaching Assistant Role and Responsibilities
Teaching assistants are based in various roles throughout the school. Teaching assistants are largely based within the classroom and provide support to pupils with additional learning requirements or special educational needs- ADD, ADHD, ASD or dyslexia. You will work with various pupils from lesson to lesson and over time, you will be expected to develop a good rapport with the pupils you support. Depending on the degree you have, you may well be based, on occasion, within the department of your subject specialism. For example, if you are a maths graduate, you will provide teaching assistant support for key stage three and four maths lessons. This will be particularly beneficial as you will get firsthand experience of how your subject is taught at secondary level.
