We are looking for someone to join the University of London’s International Academy, Student Services Department. This is a fixed term contract till Feb/March 2016 (TBC) this role is for an Immediate start.
To support the operational management and development of UOLIA’s Student Portal and associated Identity and Access Management system
To translate business analysis into requirement and technical solutions
To work with other developers to design and develop the implementation of these solutions.
To be responsible for any technical development of the Liferay portal and to act as the primary technical contact with Firelay and ensure that any system or environment issues are escalated appropriately To translate business analysis into detailed solutions specifications
To identify technical issues and modifications needed in existing applications and develop solutions to meet the requirements
In collaboration with other developers, to utilise development skills to implement solutions based on analysis and requirements
To identify opportunities in existing solutions that could improve business efficiency
To promote knowledge and understanding of requirements to existing team members and other interested parties
To identify current and future skills gaps and make recommendations accordingly
To assist other developers in any related work as necessary and where appropriate
To manage delivery schedules, identify risks and issues and ensure that the solutions are delivered on schedule
To conduct and document various types of testing as an integral part of the development cycle (e.g. unit, system, load, integration etc.)
To produce system and user documentation as an integral part of the development cycle
To provide 3rd line technical support and manage escalation as necessary and where appropriate
To identify and undertake any skills or training requirements where appropriate
To work within and contribute to a skill sharing environment
Any other duties consistent with both the grade and scope of the post

Experience of business analysis and requirements gathering
Experience of translating business analysis into details solutions specifications
Experience of working in a team based development environment.
Experience of working on a significant development project.

Experience of working within a Higher Education organisation
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of Java, JEE, JSP and Portlet (JSR286) Development
Knowledge of enterprise Portal platforms and Web Content Management systems
Knowledge of web and internet technologies
Knowledge of web design and accessibility standards
Knowledge of Identity and Access Management principles and processes
Knowledge of relational databases including SQL
Development and debugging experience of Shell scripts
Working knowledge of Unix shells (any) and editor (any)
Knowledge of Tribal SITS Student Records System
Understanding of systems and database designs and their use in the production of working applications.
Education and Professional Qualifications:
Good level of professional IT qualification.
Educated to a Degree level or equivalent by experience or ability.
